Installation

  1. Why am I getting an error that my database has problems with utf8?
  2. How long does it take to install?
  3. How do I install the plugin?
  4. Why do I need my own Microsoft API Key
Why am I getting an error that my database has problems with utf8?

To improve performance SEO Translate caches your translated pages in your database.  Your current database character set only supports Latin languages, meaning non-Latin languages, such as most Asian characters are not supported.  We’ve created a workaround that addresses the issue for some databases.  However, the best way to resolve this error is by changing the character settings in your database to utf8.  If you are using a MySql database, you can learn more about changing the database character set here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/charset-database.html

Translation

  1. How do you ensure the translation is accurate?
  2. Into how many languages does the plugin translate?
  3. How is the translation accomplished?
  4. The translated content is not showing up on my sitemap
  5. How do I pick languages?
  6. Why is translated content not displaying properly?
  7. Does it translate AdSense?
  8. What will the URL structure look like?
How do you ensure the translation is accurate?

SEO Translate provides a machine translation of your web site and as such is subject to the capability of a machine. What does that mean?

As the meaning of words and phrases often depends on the context and specialized knowledge of the domain area or culture and because sentence structures and grammatical rules vary significantly between two languages, accurate translation requires human skills to translate sentences without errors.

The quality of today’s most advanced translation software is well below the accuracy and fluency of a professional translator, and many sentences are simply not understandable. Researchers are continuously working on improvements, but it may be many years before high quality translation can be consistently offered by a computer.

The translated content is not showing up on my sitemap

There may be three issues

  1. The language choice needs to be enabled in the settings section
  2. You need the latest version of WordPress SEO or Google XML Sitemaps
  3. Your sitemap does not dynamically update and needs 24 hours to correctly display

Top ↑

How do I pick languages?
  • Go to the SEO Translate settings menu
Language Option Menus
  • Select among the language and display options and press save changes.  Selected languages will now be available to your visitors

Why is translated content not displaying properly?

There may be two problems.  Both relate to the display of non-Latin characters (an example is Asian characters)

  1. Certain sites use javascript to display characters and words.  Your javascript is not set to display non-Latin characters and defaults to showing non-readable characters
  2. Your database may default to only showing Latin characters.  Reference “Why am I getting an error that my database has problems with utf8?”

Does it translate AdSense?

SEO Translate can only translate the copy within your posts, pages, and plugins.  Adwords, and for that matter any ads or other content served by third parties, aren’t a part of your WordPress experience but served by Google.  Besides, translating others’ ads violates Google’s advertising policy.
